OUR STORY
More than gumbo
The goal of Elysianne is not only to create beautiful dishes and a fun dining experience for our guests, but also to elevate the flavors and cuisine of New Orleans and Louisiana on the world stage.
By making contemporary versions of classic dishes, updating lost recipes, and creating new ways to use the flavors and ingredients synonymous with Cajun and Creole cuisine, we want to show diners outside of Louisiana and the US, that the rich tapestry of Cajun/ Creole cuisine, culture, history, and flavor, is more than just gumbo and jambalaya while also giving fellow Louisianians a real taste of home.
OUR NAME
Where the name comes from
For many New Orleanians, much of life branches somehow off of Elysian Fields Avenue. Named after the Avenue des Champs-Élysées in Paris, it courses south to north connecting the two most important bodies of water in the city, the Lower Mississippi River and Lake Pontchartrain.
The word Elysian is a French adverb meaning: beautiful, perfect, and peaceful.
In classical mythology Elysium, also known as the Elysian Fields, was the paradise reserved for the heroes immortalized by the gods.
Something described as elysian is blissful, divine, inspired, glorious, or delightful in a way that evokes something otherworldly surpassing excellence as to suggest inspiration by the gods.
With these connections, meanings, and inspiration in mind, not only was the name of the restaurant born, but also our mission of providing our guests a warm, delightful, and truly Elysianne dining experience.
